BTS Group Unveiled the Transformative Power of Sustainable Mobility at COP28
BackBTS Group Holdings Public Company Limited, represented by Mr. Daniel Ross, Chief Investment Officer and Head of the Sustainability Department, were invited to participate in the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP28 conference, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Delivering a keynote on the topic of BTS Group and its role in Thailand’s Net Zero Transport Transformation, the talk was part of the “Thailand’s Business Leaders to Share Vision and Experiences on Net Zero Transformation” session at the Thailand Pavilion at COP28. The session showcased the ambitious role of Thailand along with other private sector actors on their crucial role to limit the global temperature rise to below 1.5 degrees Celsius and to transition to a Net Zero economy to the world. The Thailand Pavilion was organised by the Department of Climate Change and Environment, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Royal Thai Government, and Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation.
Mr. Ross stated, “In order to make Net Zero Transport possible, governments need to reorient their Net Zero transport plan around a backbone of electric rail. Rail is cleaner, quieter, more affordable, and benefits from economies of scale. There needs to be investment in rail network expansion for both people and goods, empowering commuters and driving change. This modal shift needs to be accelerated, and BTS Group is ready to help Thailand achieve its targets under the Nationally Determined Contributions”.
The Conference of the Parties (COP) is an annual international climate change conference held by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The conference convenes together world leaders, governments, the public and private sectors, NGOs and many others to agree on policies to limit global temperature rises and adapt to impacts associated with climate change. The COP28 conference took place from 30 November to 12 December 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
