BTS Group Supports Phase 2 of Low Emission Zone Project in Bangkok to Expand Clean Air Areas Across the City
BackFebruary 20th 2024, at the Auditorium, 5th floor, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Miss Narisara Srisan, Strategic Communication Consultant for BTS Group Holdings Public Company Limited, represented the Company in the declaration ceremony for the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) project in Bangkok, Phase 2. The ceremony featured Dr. Pongthep Wongwatcharapaiboon, CEO of the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), Mr. Paisit Panichakul, Director of the Academic Center for Air Pollution Prevention and Solution (ACAP), Lt. Virat Tanchanapradit, Director of the Air Quality and Noise Management Division, Bangkok Environment Department (BMA), the Pollution Control Department, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and partner networks to develop the LEZ project, alongside various public and private sector agencies. This project is a continuation of the successful Phase 1 in the Pathumwan District, where collaboration among various establishments reduced air pollution by 10%. The ACAP and BMA Environment Department are now extending the project to Phase 2, targeting four Bangkok districts with the highest levels of particulate matter (PM): Khlong San, Pom Prap Sattru Phai, Bang Rak, and Khlong Toei.
BTS Group is committed to supporting this initiative to the fullest extent possible. Leveraging its diverse transportation business portfolio, which includes BTS Skytrain, MRT Yellow and Pink Lines, the Gold Line, BRT, and Pinto electric motorcycles, BTS Group aims to facilitate public convenience while being environmentally friendly. These transportation projects significantly reduce air pollution and PM2.5 particles, aligning with BTS Group's policy of prioritizing social and environmental responsibility alongside good governance. As a result, BTS Group remains the first and only rail transport company to achieve carbon neutrality.
Additionally, from March 22 to April 3, 2024, BTS Group will collaborate with BMA and ThaiHealth to host "The Air We Share" event. This event will feature an academic forum, an art exhibition, and mini-workshops on board games to raise awareness about PM2.5. The event will be held at the skywalk connecting the BTS National Stadium Station (W1).
